A Personal Letter from the Downing Family to the Future Owner of this wonderful home...
Our home was built in the 1940's, added onto in the 1950's, and remodeled in 2005. The house has some wonderful history. The property was part of the Coleman Farms. This part of the farm was divided out for Grover Coleman to build his home and raise his family. Grover Coleman raised his two children here; one was Jerry Coleman, Lubbock Radio station, KDAV's radio personality. The Coleman's raised all kinds of animals here including peacocks, monkeys, catfish, sheep, and more.
The fireplace has a great history of its own. The Coleman's grandmother brought items from Douglas County, AZ for the fireplace. When the Coleman's were building the fireplace in the den, she gave them several pieces of petrified wood, arrowhead, mortar and pestle, and a hammerhead complete with indentations of leather or rope imprints. The house is so warm and inviting you will feel the comforting walls hugging you immediately.
The large pond has been swum in by most of the community at one time or another. The Coleman's and subsequent owners have enjoyed having parties on the stone patio complete with a stone cookout area with a built in grill. The aerated pond has two decks with a gang plank and swimming deck. This is a great home in which to raise your children or grandchildren.
The 20' x 30' steel barn has been added in the last two years.
The drive is an easy drive from Lubbock, just 20 minutes from Loop 289 and HWY 87. By the time you get home, the drive has you relaxed from viewing all the farm scenery. Watching the land change with the crops and seasons is very relaxing. The Wilson school's are just two miles away and the buses will pick your children up.
When you buy this home you will be welcomed by a wonderful community of people. The local churches and school share a great spirit and working with them is wonderful. My prayer is that you will enjoy our home and community as much as we have.
